Waimea Office, Hawaii Island Waimea (locally known as Kamuela) is a charming, upcountry town located at 2,600 feet above sea level. Set against the majestic backdrop of Mauna Kea, Waimea has a rich ranching history due to its proximity to Parker Ranch. Established more than 160 years ago, this cattle ranch now spans more than 250,000 acres. Waimea is one of the oldest, most established communities on Hawai‘i Island and in the entire state, having grown up organically as workers from Parker Ranch settled there. Waimea is still the heart and center of the lives of the many ranchers employed in the rolling hills nearby, and also home to world renowned scientists.
